Grand Prix Series Rules and Info

Overview 

The Hollard Grand Prix Cycling Series comprises five sanctioned cycling events hosted in Namibia during the 2026 season, spanning multiple cycling disciplines, namely Mountain Bike (MTB), Gravel Bike (GB), and Road Bike (RB) racing. 

The series is governed in accordance with the Namibian Cycling Federation’s regulations, with each event conducted under the technical and sporting rules applicable to its specific discipline. The objective of the series is to reward consistency, sporting excellence, and participation across the full calendar of events.

  • Each event will offer different distance races with different categories and awards.
  • Event information, rules and regulations will be posted under each event page on raceday.events or on the race specific website. 

1.Moon Landscape 

  • 75km – Elite, Sub Veteran, Veteran, Master & Grand Master (Male & Female) Rhino
  • 45km – Open & Junior (16 & Younger)(Male & Female)

2. Friedenau Gravel Challenge

5. Hollard Hearts Road Race

Points Allocation (per event)

  • At each event, an additional five (5) points will be awarded to the King of the Mountain (KOM) and Queen of the Mountain (QOM). 
  • Series points will only be awarded on general classification in all full distance events irrespective of age category and accumulate towards the final series standings.

Double Points Event 

  • The Hollard Hearts Foundation Cycling Festival shall award double championship points toward the overall series standings. 

Tie-Breaking 

In the event of a tie on total series points, the following criteria shall be applied in order: 

  1. Number of event wins 
  2. Number of podium finishes (1st to 3rd) 
  3. Result in the final round of the series 

Eligibility and Participation 

  • Riders must finish a minimum of three (3) events to qualify for overall series standings and prize money. Riders may compete on discipline-appropriate bicycles only, as defined by the Namibian Cycling Federation regulations for each event. 
  • Each rider must always wear a helmet while riding during the event. 
  • All helmets must comply with international safety standards. 
  • Appropriate riding attire, including a cycling jersey, must be worn at all times.
  • Sleeveless jerseys are not permitted. 
  • E-Bikes might be allowed at some events but their results will be excluded from the series standings and will not influence general classification points. 

Age Restriction

Age on 31 December of the year in which the event takes place. 

  • Mountain Bike races – Full distance – 17 years 
  • Gravel Bike Races – Full Distance – 19 Years 
  • Road Cycling – Full Distance – 17 Years

Rider Identification 

  • Participants must display their race numbers at all times. 
  • The front race number board must remain firmly fixed on the handlebar, may not be obscured by cables or any other item and must be legible from the front. 
  • Race back numbers at the road race event must be attached to the rider at all times in a visible position either on the rider’s jersey or on the back of their hydration pack. 
  • Race numbers may not be modified in any way including cutting or removing existing stickers or time keeping tags. Numbers will be replaced at the rider’s cost. 
  • No official sponsor logos may be removed from race numbers and/or be obscured in any way. 
  • No personal sponsor logos may be added to the race numbers. 

Series Prize Money 

  • 1st Place: NAD 250,000
  • 2nd Place: NAD 50,000
  • 3rd Place: NAD 10,000 
  • Individual event prize money shall be awarded separately and does not form part of the overall series Prize Money. 

Medals and Awards 

  • Each event will award its own unique finishers medals, trophies and prize money. 
  • Podium Hollard Grand Prix Gold, Silver Bronze medals will be awarded at each event for all category winners. 

Authority and Appeals 

  • Any protests related to the event must be submitted to the Series Race Director in writing and submitted within two (2) hours after the posting of preliminary results of the event. 
  • Following the completion of the formal appeals process, all decisions taken by the Series Race Director and the respective Race Organizers shall be final and binding. No further correspondence, protest, or appeal shall be entered into thereafter. 

Age Categories 

Each event offers several riding categories for male and female based on age with options to upgrade to a higher category. 

  • Elite (19-29) 
  • Sub Veteran (30-39) 
  • Veteran (40-49) 
  • Master (50 -59) 
  • Grand Master (60+) 
  • Rhino Men (Men 90kg+ after finishing a race) – Category not available in all races. 
  • Open category for shorter distances.

Medical 

  • Responsibility. Each rider must ensure that they are in good health and well-trained for the events. 
  • Medical Removal. The Organisers reserve the right to prevent a rider from starting or continuing the event on receipt of medical advice from an official Race medic or any other medical doctor recognised by the Organisers. The decision of the Race Director/Organiser in this regard is final. 

Prohibited Equipment 

  • The use of earphones or two-way radios is not allowed during the Race. 
  • Cameras/Video cameras may be mounted on the participant’s bike but not on the participant’s body including the helmet. 
  • Cameras mounted on the participant’s bike must be positioned in a safe location and manner and cannot protrude an unreasonable distance from the bike (for example, no ‘selfie’ sticks). 
  • Use or ban of drop or modified handlebars, clip-on extensions, aerobars, inner bar ends or non- commercially available bars will differ during the series events but will be specified for each event. 
  • The Race Director/Organiser/Commissaire may at any time prohibit any other item of equipment other than essential cycling equipment at its discretion. 

Roads 

  • Participants might not always have exclusive use of certain public or private roads during the Race. 
  • All traffic regulations, including riding on the correct side of the road, must be complied with at all times. 

Water Points 

  • Participants are responsible for carrying enough water and nutrition with them during the event. 
  • The Organisers will provide water and snacks at official water points on the route, intended only for drinking. No excessive water use for other purposes will be permitted at official water points for example washing bikes. 
  • Some water points may act as technical support zones 

Outside and Technical Assistance during the event 

No outside assistance is permitted under any circumstances accept if otherwise stated in specific rules. For purposes hereof, “outside assistance” includes Physical or Technical Assistance by any person other than 

  • a fellow rider participating in the event 
  • event staff member with specific permission to assist participants 
  • Race organiser or Race Director 
  • Race Commissaire 
  • Sharing of bike parts or swapping of bike frames are allowed between participants in the same event category and start group 
  • Towing between or pushing of riders is permitted by direct hand contact (e.g., hand-to-hand or hand-to-bike), but is prohibited using any mechanical or physical devices (including without limitation a rope, tube, or cable). 
  • Sharing of water and water and nutrition are allowed between participants in the same event category and start group. 

Drafting 

  • Riders may draft behind fellow participants in the same race category and start group, but not behind different race participants in other categories or distances.
  • No other form of drafting is permitted, including but not limited to drafting behind private vehicles, motorcycles, trucks, or official Race vehicles 

Applicability of Rules 

  • Where indicated, specific Rules will apply to different events. 
  • UCI Rules will apply to the UCI Category/Event. 
  • Interpretation of Rules – The interpretation of any Rule (including evaluation of any protest, any other matter relating to the Rules, or any other matter related to participation in the event, whether or not the Rules address such matter) will be made by the Series Director (Race Jury at UCI Event) and will be final and binding on all Race participants. 

Code of Conduct 

  • All riders must display good sportsmanship at all times and must not use offensive or abusive language during the Race, act in an unsporting manner, or be disrespectful to anyone. 
  • Riders must respect the environment at all times, and no littering or damage to the environment are allowed. 
  • No shortcuts will be allowed.
